The Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC), an apex body with the mandate to promote scientific study and quality research on health problems in Nepal, received an international awarded for its proposal "Capability Strengthening of the Health Research Network in Nepal" from The Rockefeller Foundation (RF) to support the efforts in health researches for development in Nepal covering the period between November 2000 to October 2003. A number of activities have been undertaken by NHTC under bilateral agreement of this program to enhance the capability for promoting health research network in Nepal. This report describes the progresses and achievements made during November 1, 2001 to the end of September 2002, the second year of the support of RF. The commencement of all the activities of 2002 began within stipulated period by the Rockefeller Foundation.
To develop the national health research agenda through needs assessment, and development of strategies and priorities To strengthen networking, coordination, and monitoring in health research To strengthen research capability through strengthening of core research support team at NHRC To strengthen NHRC library and information systems to support health research To promote good ethical practice in health research in networking institutions To promote development of health research culture and create an enabling environment for health research in Nepal To improve communication, dissemination and utilization of research findings To facilitate development of research initiative among different level of health cadres through research methodology training program.
